Andrea Davis Pinkney on hearing the news that her book,”Hand in Hand: Ten Black Men Who Changed America,” is the winner of the 2013 Coretta Scott King Book Awards author award. The awards honor African American authors and illustrators of outstanding books for children and young adults.
The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values.
The award is sponsored by the American Library Association’s Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT).
Pinkney, also was selected to deliver the 2014 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture.
