Did you know that in 2012 there were 3200 children’s books published; that’s the good news. Children literature is always a good idea. What is sad that not all children, authors and illustrators are not being represented by that number. Of the 3200 children’s book, only 90 were written or illustrated by Asian-Americans. For African-Americans, Latino-Americans and Native-Americans the numbers are worse: African-American – 67, Native-Americans – 18 and Latin-Americans – 18.
All children should be able to pick up a book and see themselves, as well as others, represented in the books that they read.
I am in the process of writing a book for young adults. I need an illustrator to illustrate the story. The problem is that I don’t money to pay. He/she would share in the royalty.
